Our Technology

At Augusta Family Dentistry, Dr. Mitsch and Dr. Colt continually update equipment in order to meet patients' dental health needs in more accurate, effective ways.  This dedication to technology has earned Augusta Family Dentistry the distinction of becoming a beta-test site for Dentrix and a role model for high-tech dental offices around the world.

Augusta Family Dentistry houses one of 400 I-Cat Cone Beam Scanners in the world.  Augusta Family Dentistry is also one of the first thirty offices in the world to own and utilize the E4D.

I-CAT

The I-CAT Imaging System produces a 3D view of all oral and maxillofacial structures to enhance diagnosis and treatment planning.  The 20-second scan data is transferred to a computer within one minute and displays a 3D mapping tool that allows Dr. Mitsch and his team to select desired areas for immediate viewing.  The I-CAT images can reveal dental and medical problems that cannot be seen using conventional X-ray films or 2D imaging and there is 3,800 times less radiation per scan.

It is a revolution in dentistry, making treatment objective rather than subjective.  In addition, Dr. Mitsch, Dr. Colt and the AFD team have received core training and many staff members have been certified to utilize the I-CAT.

E4D

On March 19, 2008, the E4D was installed at Augusta Family Dentistry.  Augusta Family Dentistry is one of first thirty dental practices in the nation to own and utilize the E4D.  Augusta Family Dentistry is the first office in Kansas to receive it. The E4D technology is a CAD/CAM machine that builds crowns (also inlays and onlays) from an impression generated by a set of lasers used in the mouth.

The E4D is an American machine - designed and manufactured in Dallas by a group of private investors who researched the positives and negatives of CAD/CAM machines previously - and currently - in use.  By doing so, D4D (the company responsible for this machine) has created the E4D.  The technology that the E4D competes with is over twenty years old and the E4D will revolutionize dentistry.

It benefits patients by stabilizing the cost of crowns for patients.  Most importantly, it greatly reduces the amount of time to build a crown.  Typically, this means less time at the office but with the same results.  (Traditionally, a dentist creates a mold of the patient's mouth.  The mold is then sent to a lab for the creation of the crown.  The patient must then return to the office - typically one to two weeks later - to have the crown put in.)

The E4D is a long-term technology that Augusta Family Dentistry is pleased to utilize.

BioPAK - JVA

Another innovative diagnostic tool is the BioPAK and JVA (joint vibration analysis), a set of diagnostic instruments that allow Dr. Mitsch and Dr. Colt to measure activity in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).  Dr. Mitsch has studied the BioPAK since 2001.  In 2005, he was awards Mastership Certification for interpretation and diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).

The Importance of Our Technology

At Augusta Family Dentistry, technology is a crucial part of proper diagnosis then treatment for our patients.  We not only possess state-of-the-art technology but have been trained and certified to use this equipment for the betterment of patient care.

From the I-CAT to ultrasoncic cleanings and intraoral cameras, our office is prepared to provide effective, superior dental solutions backed by the technology - and training - that help us find underlying problems and establish a treatment plan so that your teeth can be healthy for life.

"I am constantly asked about our technology.  Our colleagues and our patients are curious and want to witness the advantages of such state-of-the-art equipment.  Once they have seen the detail provided and how we are able to effectively treat dental problems because we have properly diagnosed them, they are amazed," explains Dr. Mitsch.  "But it is simply not enough to possess this equipment.  We must be trained in its use.  And my staff, Dr. Colt and I are trained accordingly so that our patients reap the full benefits of this equipment."
